Describe what your organization provides for its customers:

We are an IGA grocery store—carrying a full line of groceries—catering to those that live here and  tourists, we have what you are looking for.
We have a full-time butcher that provides our customers with the best cut of meat.  Betty’s Country Store has a deli that provides deli salads, lunch meats and makes made to order sandwiches to eat at Betty’s or take out orders. Our bakery has every sweet thing that you can imagine—cookies, cakes, pies, cupcakes, muffins, brownies, rice Krispie treats and a lot more goodies.
Betty’s has a Kid’s candy room that we all love. There are a lot of different jars of candy and many old fashioned nostalgic candies. Look above any cooler or check on the wall for old advertisements and antiques. Betty’s has added a beer & wine bar outside on the porch. Our beer & wine selection is something you want to take time to explore-- our German beer & wine along with local brewery IPA’s.

Give us a brief history of your business and what makes it stand out:

We are celebrating 50 years of service to our community and tourists. Betty’s Country Store was established in 1973 by George and Betty Fain. Now the 3rd generation of the family, John Thomas Broadway is operating Betty’s Country Store. We started in an 800 square foot building and have grown to 10,000 square foot building. We have kept the same “country” look that we had in the original store. We carry a large variety of books about the history of Helen and surrounding areas. The books provide information about hiking, walking the waterfalls and traveling around the North Georgia mountains.

Where do you hope to see your business in 12 months?

With a younger generation running the business, John Thomas Broadway is bringing a lot of new ideas and making updates on our looks. He is making positive changes to the inside as well as the outside of the store. We hope Betty’s Country Store will add countless more products and services for the public.

What advice would you offer to someone looking for the type of services your organization provides?

If you are looking for a sandwich or groceries, beer & wine, candy, local honey, bakery goods and fresh cut meat or you just want to browse, we are a must-stop.
