Welcome to the Chamber

The White County Chamber of Commerce is a voluntary partnership of business and professional people working together to build a healthy economy and to improve the quality of life in White County.

As our chamber works to accomplish these goals, it wears many hats: economic developer and planner; tourist information center; business spokesperson; economic counselor and teacher; government relations specialist; human resources advisor; and public relations practitioner. Simply stated, your Chamber is business and professional people working together to make your community a better place for everyone to live and work.

As it works to improve your community's economy and quality of life, your Chamber keeps these broad objectives in mind:

  1. To help businesses prosper and grow
  2. To increase job opportunities
  3. To encourage an orderly expansion and development of all segments of the community
  4. To contribute to the overall economic stability of the community
If you live, work or do business in a community, then the economic viability and the livability of that community must be a concern to you, because if these decline, then business declines. Therefore, it is essential for the business community to be part of the decision-making processes that will impact on the community.

To gain this input, the business person could:
  1. Take individual action. This would be very time consuming
  2. Add employees to handle this important task. This would be very expensive.
  3. Let the Government do it. This would lead to increased taxes, more regulatory controls
  4. increased business development constraints.
  5. Do nothing. If we do nothing, then Government will do it.
  6. Take collective action. This is voluntarism…this is the Chamber of Commerce!
By banding together to undertake aggressive action programs that are in the best interests of the total community both business and the community prosper.

Many members belong to the Chamber even though they know will be unable to take an active part in the organization. They realize that the work of the Chamber is important to them personally and to their business. Their financial participation is important because it helps to fund those programs and activities of importance to the business community. They realize, like those members who can personally participate, that it is in their best interest to have a strong, viable Chamber working for them.

You don’t buy membership in your Chamber of Commerce – you buy the cooperation of the ablest men and women in business and industry, with whom you can join hands to do those things which you cannot do alone!

In summary, the Chamber of Commerce does all the little – and quite often, the big – basic tasks that must be done if we are to be a county in motion. We are here to see to it that our growth continues in an orderly fashion; provide services for the demands of the residents; and provide the networking on which the business community thrives.
