Get in the Spirit of Appalachia, September 17
The grounds of Hardman Farm in Sautee Nacoochee will be set for a celebration on Saturday, September 17. Tents will be arrayed across the field and musicians will be on stage while festival goers taste delectable dishes made from Georgia products, sample north Georgia’s finest wines and shop the booths of regional artists selling all types of creations.
The Spirit of Appalachia Food, Wine & art Festival is the first of its kind in north Georgia. It is presented by Springer Mountain Farms and Atlanta Magazine in partnership with Georgia Grown and produced by the White County Chamber of Commerce.
The festival will feature creations by Georgia’s best chefs. Some of those featured include Chef Holly Chute, Georgia’s Chef for the Georgia Department of Agriculture; Abby Jackson, Chef and Owner of Abby J's Gourmet; Daniel Atwood, Chef at the Corkscrew Cafe; Derek Dollar, Executive Chef for Milton’s Cuisine & Cocktails and The Big Ketch; Savannah Haseler, Executive Chef for Twain’s Brewpub & Billiards and The Comet Pub & Lanes; and proprietors of The 1837 Stovall House Farm to Table Restaurant.
These chefs will create dishes onsite for tasting using Spring Mountain Farms chicken and the ingredients of participating food and farm producers. Some of the food producers include: Mountain Fresh Creamery, Unicoi Preserves, Pappy’s Products, Abby J’s Gourmet, Oliver Farm, Honey on the Hill, Nature’s Kitchen, Bootlikker Hot Sauce and Yonah Coffee.
The wines of participating wineries will be recommended for each dish. Tastings will be offered by Habersham Winery, Sylvan Valley Lodge, CeNita Vineyards & Winery, The Cottage Vineyard & Winery, Serenity Cellars, Yonah Mountain Vineyards, Kaya Vineyard & Winery, Sweet Acre Farms Winery, Noble Wine Cellars, Chateau Meichtry, and Stonewall Creek Vineyards.
Artists working in pottery, glass art, acrylic, oil and water color painting, the written word, furniture, flint knapping, jewelry, herbal items and wood working will show and sell their work.
It will be a Georgia grown soundtrack at the Spirit of Appalachia festival. Men in Blues headline the event. Radford Windham & Step Back Cadillac and Teddy Baker take the stage earlier in the day. Storyteller Bobby Adams will emcee the festival.
We look forward to seeing you at this family friendly event. Entrance to the festival is free. Parking is $10 per car. The $1 tickets for food and wine tastings will be sold on site in increments of 10, and a festival tasting glass costs $3.
