City of Cleveland, GA
Cleveland is a friendly, bustling little town, the county seat of White County. As you make the traditional circle of the courthouse square to go through town, you’ll note gift shops, art galleries and coffee shops. The center of North Georgia’s 18th century folk pottery cottage industry was located in this area, and there are several places in Cleveland you can buy genuine pottery pieces, as well as other locally-made art. That courthouse you’re circling was built in 1857 and is now the home of the White County Historical Society Museum. Inside you’ll find displays about the county’s contributions to both the Civil War and World War II, as well as Native American history. You’ll enjoy learning about the movies that have been filmed here.
Cleveland is also the home of Cabbage Patch Kids and the Babyland General® Hospital. This is where Xaviar Roberts created the first soft-sculpture babies and started history. Babyland General® Hospital is the site of the annual Easter Eggstravaganza and the Appalachian Christmas celebrations. Other events in Cleveland you won’t want to miss are the Christmas in the Mountains, which includes the lighted Christmas Parade and the Agri-Fest Country Market.
Stop and check out some of our friendly shopkeepers. Cleveland is the Gateway to the North Georgia mountains, and makes a great base from which to plan your vacation, recreation or shopping expeditions.
In 2010, the City of Cleveland issued approximately 260 business licenses.
