Art & Culture

White County has long been a draw for creativity. You can learn about the pioneers whose struggle to survive in what was then wilderness became the source for beauty and ingenuity at the History Museum in Cleveland – then browse through our numerous galleries and gifts shops.

The Helen Arts and Heritage Center offers classes, a museum and a number of art shows and events. It is dedicated to sharing local art and preserving the unique history of Alpine Helen.

In Sautee-Nacoochee, the Sautee Nacoochee Community Association has made it a mission to encourage creativity in the area – from poetry to performing arts, visual arts, dance, music and storytelling. The community folk-life play, Headwaters, first produced in 2006, brings thousands of people to the area annually to see original music, dance and theater.

Two galleries and two museums are located at the center, but other galleries, studios and giftshops are located throughout the county.

Cleveland has galleries and shops offering local arts and crafts. A number of civic and community organizations with a variety of interests thrive in the area.

Georgia Heritage Arts Association is a wonderful organization that has been in existence for over 12 years and continues to work promoting the artists of Georgia in every way available to us. As we continue to move into the future the artists continue to bring new ideas and
volunteer to help us carry them out. New location for the GHAA Art & Fine Crafts Gallery is located at 8016 S. Main St. in Helen. Gallery hours: Thursday through Monday from 10:00 to 5:00 p.m. Over 28 artists showing and demonstrating their art work.
