Taxes in White County


In White County, property is assessed a tax for the general operation of local governments.  Each jurisdiction determines the amount of revenue it anticipates needing and receiving through a variety of sources, such as sales taxes, user fees, fines and forfeitures, state & federal grants and ad valorem (property) taxes.

For White County government operations, in 2000, over $2.2 million in property taxes was needed to operate a budget of $7.9 million.  For 2001, the Board of Commissioners set a mill age rate of 6.88 mils for all county properties. The City of Cleveland operated with an overall budget of around $3.5 million in 2005. Of this amount, only about $270,000 was projected to be collected through property taxes, and the remainder was collected from user fees, fines, sales tax and other assessments.
