Education

Five schools constitute the White County Education System: Jack P. Nix Primary School, grades K-1; White County Elementary School, grades 2-3; White County Intermediate School, grades 4-5; White County Middle School, grades 6-8; White County High School, grades 9-12. The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools accredits all White County schools, grades K-12. White County students consistently score above state and national averages on state-wide testing.

Students at Jack P. Nix Primary School receive special instruction in music, art, and physical education along with the basic core curriculum designed for this early age group. Allowing children to explore new educational techniques while giving them the opportunity to master the basics sustains this optimal learning environment and nurtures a positive image of school and learning.

JPNix.gif (78732 bytes)White County Elementary School provides a stimulating curriculum with an emphasis on the basics. Children have the latest in classroom instructional equipment, including computers and closed circuit television.

At White County High School, students choose one of three curriculums (general, vocational or college preparatory) to finish their primary education. Both the general and vocational curriculums prepare students to enter the work force after graduation or to attend a vocational school. The college preparatory curriculum provides the advanced core classes needed to succeed at the college and university levels. Every curriculum offered prepares students for life’s challenges and gives them the skills needed for success.

Two programs implemented by the school system, Adopt-A-Class and the White County Homework Center, help students succeed by enriching their learning experiences with after hours and off-campus learning.

Adopt-A-Class Program

The Adopt-A-Class Program partners one class with one business. In this partnership, the business enriches the education of the students by sponsoring field trips to the business location and by visiting the classroom. This arrangement allows students and teachers to learn more about local industry and business.

White County Homework Center

The White County Homework Center strives to improve student achievement by strengthening learning habits, providing teachers with prepared students and enhancing the home learning environment for both parents and students. Available for students K-5, the Homework Center allows a positive relationship between school, home and community to flourish.
